FAQS for Fees and Charges
- Why are the fees and charges increasing now?
Council’s 2021-2031 Long-Term Plan included increases to fees and charges for some of our swimming services, through our Revenue and Financing Policy. These fee increases will help Council to continue running and maintaining these well-loved facilities for years to come.
- When will the fees and charges increase?
These changes will come into effect from 1 July 2021.
- Why has the casual adult entry fee for Gallagher Aquatic Centre been reduced to $7 and Waterworld remains the same $7.50.
We want to encourage our community to visit Gallagher Aquatic Centre in Melville to lap lane swim in the 25m pool and we have reduced the entry fee as an incentive to do this.
- Why has the adult casual entry fee for hydrotherapy increased?
The hydrotherapy pool is a very popular pool. It offers water therapy for people who have rehabilitation or wellness needs. With this in mind, we have introduced a new reduced 10 swim concession option $54 for people 65+ and for people with a disability. The adult casual entry has increased from $7.50 to $8 however, the adult 10 swims concession $67.50 remains the same equating to $6.75 a swim.
- Why have many of the options for concession cards and memberships being discontinued?
We had a large range of options on offer for swimming concessions and memberships, which could be complicated for our customers. To make it simpler to choose an option that suits your needs, we have discontinued some options. We have now introduced a No Contract option on our memberships to give you the flexibility to cancel at anytime with no cancellation fee. This option is a great alternative for customers who like having a short-term option of 3-6 months.
- What happens to our existing memberships/concessions?
Don’t worry – existing memberships will be valid and continue until the original date of expiry. However, when you renew yours, you will be choosing from our new concession and membership options.
- Why has the age for seniors (and the senior discount) changed from 60 years to 65 years old?
Our nationwide retirement age is 65 – this is the age that New Zealanders are eligible for superannuation. After reviewing our fees and charges, Council decided it made sense for our fee discount for seniors to align with New Zealand’s official retirement age.
- What memberships do you offer for seniors?
Our seniors’ membership provides access to swimming (hydrotherapy pool not included), gym and group fitness classes. For our senior members convenience, we have a 12-month direct debit option paying $10 a week from your bank account or you can choose to pay this all at once $520. If you would prefer to not be locked into 12 months you can pay $14 a week on direct debit instead and cancel at anytime with no cancellation fee.
- How will the Learn to Swim payments be affected?
For Learn to Swim there has been a small fee increase. For direct debit customers payments will increase by 0.50 cents per week. Don’t worry – you do not need to do anything; we will make this happen automatically. For customers who prefer to pay for the term all at once the fee has increased from $150 a term to $155.
